Railway ChildLine, Barwadih
Ensuring all children have a safe, stable, and nurturing environment is an important goal for public health in India. Adverse childhood experiences threaten the development of a child by undermining his/her sense of safety, security and nurture. A large number of children come in contact with Indian Railways as abandoned, trafficked, homeless and run-away from their homes. Every five minutes a child arrives alone on a platform somewhere in India. Data indicates more children access the railway network than any other form of transport. It is therefore, important to strengthen the existing child protection mechanisms at railway stations. Pursuant to the direction of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi, the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) to ensure care and protection of children in contact with Railways was revised by the Ministry of Railways (MOR) in discussion with the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD). A MOU was signed between the Ministry of Railways and WCD in the context of the same. The MWCD entrusted CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) the responsibility of setting up the Child Help Desk (CHD) to provide emergency services to children in contact with Railways round the clock. MSUS is responsible for managing Child Help Desk at Barwadih- Latehar railway Station from 25th November, 2020.
